US Navy Veterans Site

Dedicated to the sailors who served aboard the USS Platte AO 24
A photo and video essay.

About this Site

  • This website (10/15/2001) is dedicated in honor of the sailors (and all Vets for that matter) who served in Vietnam, the South China Sea, and especially  aboard the USS Platte AO 24.

  • I got the idea after finding two old cigar boxes full of these photos. I wondered if someone else might like to see them and maybe get a few laughs, before we are all pushing up daisy's.

  • This site will be a photo essay on how things looked aboard the ship and on liberty in the Far East.. My photos were all taken with a cheap Kodak box camera and cartridge film. It's amazing that they still look pretty good after 35 years. The black & whites were from the first generation of Polaroid Instant cameras.

  • There will be a "no-holds-barred" policy with regards to the photos published on these pages. We understand that some of them could be embarrassing. For this reason some pages will be password protected. You will have to request a password via email for access.

  • We expect work to begin in earnest sometime in early Dec 2001, and continue for a long time after that. We hope that other old salts will want to share their memories and contribute their collections. I will tell you how you can add you own stuff later.

  • If you have anything to contribute email me (Bill Glock FTG3) at: ussplatte@glocktech.net. Myself, I sailed on the Platte from January 1966 through October 1968 (three tours of duty).
