Dedicated to the sailors who served aboard the USS Platte AO 24
A photo and video essay.

Greetings from Richard "Tank" Sherley, BM3, 1965-1966

I ran the starboard high line as well as fuel rigs.  I also rode Platte as a transit in 1967 while trying to catch the USS Collett(DD-730). A ship tore down rig #7 and I worked all night with BM1 Johnson and crew putting it back together, because we had a ship at daylight to refuel with that rig and deck was really short handed at that time.

I remember both GMG2 Sellers and GMG3 Lowe.  Joe was from Pecos, TX and we steamed together along with "Dusty" Garrett from Tulia.  In one picture Dusty, Turtle(BM3 Hanold) and I are eating at the Spanish Gate in Subic.  Other pictures have BM3 Rios, Teddy Heos and BM1 Levesque in them.

Note: new pictures are being added daily. So check back.
